Conwy River Festival appeals to a wide range of participants including fast racing yachts, traditional working boats especially Welsh Nobbies and Gaffers, modern cruisers and local classes of one-designs. Since 2007 Conwy School of Yachting has put together a range of opportunities for anyone to become involved in the Festival whether they prefer the competitive nature of racing or more leisurely cruising in beautiful Conwy Bay - one of the UK's greatest sailing grounds! In 2010 Conwy School of Yachting once again proudly supported Conwy River Festival, offering a full programme of activities from racing to the very popular 2 hour try-sails. During this year's festival "Pride of Conwy" our Jeanneau 39i training yacht competed in all 4 days of racing and also found time to introduce novices to the world of sailing on our popular daysails. |

"Pride of Conwy" wins Conwy River Festival Yacht Racing. The Yacht "Pride of Conwy" owned by Conwy School of Yachting and crewed by a team of off-duty firefighters from North Wales Fire and Rescue Service won the prestigious Class 1 Trophy at the Conwy River Festival. This year's Conwy River Festival attracted an entry of 22 yachts in four classes with "Pride of Conwy" emerging as overall winner of Class 1 in the three race series. The North Wales Fire and Rescue Service members steered and sailed the 39 foot yacht throughout with instructor Keith Mander on board to provide local knowledge of navigation in Conwy’s tidal waters. This is the second time that the Fire Service has raced with Conwy School of Yachting in Conwy River Festival and their best result. In addition the crew of "Pride of Conwy" were awarded the "Spirit of the Regatta" trophy. "Pride of Conwy" and her sister yacht "Spirit of Conwy" are two luxury cruising yachts normally used by the school to train amateur sailors in seamanship and safety to the exacting standards of the Royal Yachting Association. North Wales Fire and Rescue Service actively encourage its men and women to participate in sport and team events in their spare time, helping to build confidence and team working ability. Chris Hughes, Principal of the Sailing School, said "The team sailed extremely well in difficult conditions with strong winds and large waves. In the second race they even carried out a great manoeuvre to recover a sail that had slipped over board and continued to win the race". |
